Broader horizons

Students of Azam Campus were guided on the scope and opportunities of studying abroad in an initiative taken by the Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society’s Allana Institute of Pharmacy. Abeda Inamdar was in charge of the programme,which was facilitated by chancellor Irfan Sheikh,EM Khan,Principal of the senior college,Allana College of Pharmacy’s Principal,Kiran Bhise,and Anita Franz,Principal of Rangoonwala Institute of Hotel Management.

ASM Group of Institutes recently presented Awards for Excellence-2013 to corporate heads at its Pimpri campus. CREDAI Chairman and CMD,KUL,Lalit Kumar Jain; MD,Autoline Industries,M. Radhakrishnan; VP,talent acquisition group,KPIT Cummins,Renuka Krishna; VP and country head of Saama Technologies,Vasant Shetty were among those who received the awards. Ketan Parekh,Senior Manager,Cybage,accepted the award on behalf of CEO & MD Arun Nathani for their CSR activities. MD of Finolex Industries,Saurabh Dhanorkar,was the chief guest at the occasion. Accepting the award,Jain said one can be an entrepreneur without money if one has the will.

Winning Design

After winning the Indian Baja competition at Indore,Team Nemesis from College of Engineering,Pune (COEP) registered for the 17th edition of Sasol Baja SAE,an annual intercollegiate design competition in South Africa. The event was held at GerotekTest Facilities,West of Pretoria,on October 25 and 26. The participating teams are required to build off-road vehicles which were powered by a Briggs and Stratton (10Hp) engine of the same specifications. Over 250 students from 20 different universities across the globe participated in this event. The Indian team — comprising Mayur Shinde,Prasad Chaudhari,Akshay Pandhare,Pravin Telshinge,Vinay Jadhav,Roshan Arute,Pranav Patwardhan,Prem Mishra,Pratim Angane,Suraj Aru,Pravin Jadhav,Jagdish Pawar,Sayli Bharambe and senior members Gaurav Mehta,Mayur Birari,Shrirang Puranik — bagged the first prize for the cost report and stood third in the overall competition. “We modified the same car which was used in the Indian Baja and made it faster and lighter. We tested it for 800 km in India. Also,we were the only team to use a single driver for four hours whereas all other teams used at least four drivers,” said Pandhare.
