The highlight of the 17th day of Punes racing season was the eagerly awaited Nanoli Stud Pune Derby. The whos who of the city descended to the Pune Race Course, sharply dressed and ready to have a good time. Nor were they disappointed,as the hot favourite horse Jeremiah flew past his competitors for a magnificent win. The grey-coloured three-year-old,who was tipped to be one of the top three contenders, was ridden by jockey S Zervan and trained by Pesi Shroff. While the members enclosure was bursting at the seams with patrons sitting and chatting on the wide benches and enjoying the German fare being served, the bookies were busy taking bets from people, who were craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the horses promenading at the paddocks. Chinos, heels and comfortable sun-dresses seemed to be a favourite among the ladies, while the men preferred formal shirts, trousers and sharp blazers. Many patrons were dressed in traditional Bavarian outfits,in keeping with the Oktoberfest festivities.
