Rabies claim life of 11-yr-old girl,12th death at Naidu Hospital this year

As many as 20,000 people have lost their lives in the country due to rabies.

As many as 12 rabies deaths have been reported at Pune’s Naidu Hospital so far this year. Of the 70 deaths in the state last year,at least 21 were reported at the hospital.

On December 4,11-year-old Simran Kamble died after she was bitten on the forehead by a stray dog at Bibvewadi. While she was administered anti-rabies injections at a private hospital and Sassoon,the bite was fatal and calimed her life,said doctors.

Dr Pradeep Awate,Epidemiologist,said that as many as 20,000 people have lost their lives in the country due to rabies. Globally,55,000 people have died due to the disease,he added.

Dr Anjali Sabne,in-charge of the ABC programme at PMC,said a majority of rabies deaths were reported from ousite the civic limits.
