Residents of Viman Nagar are up in arms against ‘unequal’ water distribution and have demanded that the PMC address the issue. Col (retd) SG Dalvi, along with residents, had approached municipal authorities on the matter. “Even as the city is getting good water supply, fringe areas continue to suffer and there is hardly any pressure of water. We are paying water cess, but are not getting enough water,” Dalvi said in a letter to municipal authorities.

As per the PMC, every citizen is authorised 135 litres of water supply per day. However, the present water supply varies from 350 litres per day per person in some areas to 60 litres per day per person in fringe areas. “There is an urgent need for the same to be corrected,” Dalvi pointed out.

Dalvi said that while political parties are coming up with various proposals ahead of elections next year, equitable distribution of water is an area of concern. “They cannot propose more water in some areas and make people suffer in other areas. We are opposed to such distribution and there should some solution to it,” he said.
