For the third consecutive day, Pune’s temperature was 12.9 degrees Celsius. The MET department said the temperatures dipped last week but would rise on the weekend. MET officials have stated in their forecast that on the weekend, the minimum temperature is expected to touch 16 degrees Celsius. With a trough formation near Lakshwadweep, moisture-laden winds are likely to bring in moisture and MET officials said the city might just get a few showers too on Saturday and Sunday.
Since last Sunday, the temperature had started dipping for the city. On Sunday, Pune had recorded less than hill station Mahabaleshwar and in the last two days, the temperature has been hovering between 12-13 degrees Celsius.
“The cold northerlies are making their way into the state with the low pressure areas giving way to dry winds. The well marked low pressure moved northwards, taking away the moisture and bringing in dry winds and cold northerlies,” said officials. In the state, Pune recorded 12. 9 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature was recorded for Aurangabad at 11.8 degrees Celsius, Malegaon was at 13 degrees Celsius while Mahabaleshwar was 14 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
While on Friday, the lowest temperature was recorded at Nashik at 11.5 degrees Celsius while Mahabaleshwar had soared to 16 degrees Celsius.
MET officials said northern India saw many cities record low temperature. Earlier last week, because of the low pressure areas and the moisture content in the air, the temperature remained high and it is only from this week that the temperature has started dipping, stated officials.
MET officials said November is likely to experience further dip in temperature as had been seen in earlier years, when temperature had dipped to 7.9 degrees Celsius in 2012. Last year, on November 30, the minimum temperature was 11.2 degrees Celsius while in 2013 it had dipped to 9.9 degrees Celsius. In 2007 and 2005, the temperature in the city had touched 8.3 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, the lowest temperature recorded till date for Pune in the month of November was on November 27, 1964, when it was 4.6 degrees Celsius.
