Lt Gen K Surendranath,Chief of Staff,Southern Command Headquarters,flagged off a motorcycle rally from Pune on Wednesday. The team comprising an officer,a junior commissioned officer and seven jawans of the Golden Katar Division,plans to cover approximately 1,600 km from Pune to Kanyakumari from March 13 to March 19.
A press release of the Ministry of Defence quoted Surendranath as saying that the expedition would help the Army connect with youth from various states of south India and also familiarise with the rich as well as varied culture and traditions of the coastal areas.
At the same time,it would infuse a sense of adventure and pride among the team members,he added.
The team during the flagging-off rode past the audience. The motorcyclists while travelling will interact with service families,as also the ex-servicemen and the youth of these areas. The expedition is will culminate on March 19 at Kanyakumari, the release said.
