Pune: Youth arrested with two pistols, five cartridges

A 22-year-old man with a criminal record was arrested in the city recently and two country-made pistols and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession, the police said Monday. The accused, Shubhrat Bansode, planned to sell the firearms to some criminals in the city, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, constable Swapnil Jadhav, who was part of a patrolling team from Lonikand police station, laid a trap and nabbed the accused on Theur Kesnand Road. A search allegedly revealed that Bansode had the firearms with him. He was arrested and charged under sections of the Indian Arms Act, the police said.

Assistant Inspector Gajanan Jadhav, who is probing the case, said attempts are underway to know from where the accused procured the firearms and to whom he was going to sell them.
