A 20-year-old college student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling at his residence in Hadapsar. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning. Police suspect the incident to be a fallout of a relationship he had with a girl.

Police identified the deceased as Shubham Sambhaji Tilekar, a resident of Satyapuram Society in Hadapsar. He was pursuing a diploma course at Garware College in Pune.

Assistant inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar of Hadapsar police station said, “The incident came to light at around 9 am on Tuesday, when Tilekar was alone at home and his friend went to meet him. Tilekar did not respond to knocks or calls. When he looked from the window, he saw Tilekar hanging to the ceiling with a rubber pipe.”

Tilekar was rushed to hospital but was declared dead before arrival. Tasgaonkar added, “We have found a suicide note in his pocket, which he addressed to his family members. Based on the contents of the note, we suspect that he ended his life because of issues in his relationship with a girl. But we would be probing the case further for more facts. We would also be speaking to his family members who are currently in a state of shock.”

Police suspect Tilekar to have ended his life late in the night after returning from a wedding ceremony of a relative.
