From social media outreach to starting its mobile application, members of the Senate have put forward several suggestions before the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in a bid to make it more tech-savvy and reachable to students.
While the Senate members want the university to be more approachable for students, they want more discipline and have even suggested starting bio-metric attendance for students.
The proposals come up for discussion at the Senate meeting to be held today at the university.
Senate member Abhisek Boke has proposed that SPPU create a mobile application for its students. The app he said will be an effective way for the university to communicate with the students and apprise them of latest events, notifications of the academic opportunities.
Boke has also asked that an official Twitter account be created for SPPU, where latest updates can be shared. According to Boke, not only for routine events but even in emergencies, the mobile app and social media accounts will come in handy for easy and quick access to students.
Even other Senate members are of the opinion that the university needs to up its social media presence. Member Girish Bhavalkar has proposed getting more social media active for which he recommended setting up a committee which will suggest effective measures to do so. Senate member Santosh Dhore has proposed starting compulsory biometric attendance for university students as well as those in affiliated colleges and a monthly report of the same be submitted online to the university.
