The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made preparations for the Ganesh immersion at 17 ghats along the Mutha river and placed artificial tanks at various locations across the city.
The civic body has set up mobile toilets on the procession routes for the devotees and placed garbage bins for disposal of waste. The conservancy staff has been appointed at various places across the city to carry out cleanliness work and ensure that the public deposits waste in garbage bins, instead of throwing it in the open.
The PMC health department will be gathering two teams for medical treatment of devotees at the Deccan bus stop and NMV school on Laxmi Road till the end of the celebrations.
A total of 21 ambulances of the State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be stationed in the city as a precaution in case of emergencies in the last two days of the Ganesh festival.
Ambulances will be deployed in the crowded areas, said Dr Praveen Sadhale, Manager, Emergency Response.
The ambulances will be stationed at: Alka Talkies Chowk, Belbaug Chowk, Laxmi Road – Below Z Bridge Deccan, Shaniwar Wada, Khadakwasla Dam, Nagarkar Talim Chowk, Laxmi Road, Mandai, Narayan Peth Police Chowky, N C Kelkar Road, Onkareshwar Mandir, Nagnaath Paar, Sadashiv Peth, SP College, Tilak Road, Vijay Talkies Chowk, Laxmi Road, Yashvantrao Chavan Natyagruha, Kothrud, Subhash Ghat/Moraya Gosavi Mandir, Pimpri Koteshwar Pump, Kalewadi, Chinchwad Chowk, Pune Mumbai Highway, Chinchwad Pimpri Chowk, Pune Mumbai Highway, Chinchwad Moreshwar Ganpati Mandir, Morgaon Maha Ganpati Mandir, Ranjangaon, Chintamani Mandir and Theur.
The PMC has appealed to the public to not use chemical colours during the procession.
Meanwhile, to motivate people to use artifical water tanks for immersing the Ganesh idols, the PMC has installed 40 specially designed booths near Amruteshwar ghat, S M Joshi bridge ghat, Bhide bridge ghat and Aundh ghat.
As per the tradition, Mayor Prashant Jagtap will flag off the the Ganesh immersion in the city on Thursday at 10 am after offering prayers to Kasba Ganpati, the village diety of Pune.
The PMC has errected a stage at Alka theatre junction to welcome the immersion procession of various Ganesh Mandals and felicitate their representatives.
