Police arrested the duo under sections 420, 34 of the IPC and sections of the Prevention of Gambling Act and IT Act
Pune City police have arrested two persons for allegedly taking bets on IPL 2024 cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans on Wednesday night.
Police identified the accused as Wasim Bagwan (36), a resident of Handewadi road in Hadapsar, and Tejas Ruparel (42) of Salisbury Park. An FIR was lodged against them at the Swargate police station on Thursday.
Police said the accused were allegedly cheating people by operating an online cricket betting racket through different websites and mobile phones from an apartment in Salisbury Park.
Police arrested the duo under sections 420, 34 of the IPC and sections of the Prevention of Gambling Act and IT Act. Police seized five cellphones from them.
Senior police inspector Pratap Mankar of crime branch is investigating the case.
