A man and his family living in Pune were allegedly boycotted by their caste panchayat, because his son married a girl from another community.
The caste panchayat allegedly demanded a fine of Rs 1 lakh from the man for accepting him back in the community. The man, Shankar Hariram Dangi (54), a resident of Jadhav Nagar in Wadgaon Budruk, lodged a complaint at Sahkarnagar police station.
Police said that as per the complaint, Dangi’s son got married to a woman from another community in 2011. Recently, on April 8, Dangi went to the crematorium in Dhankawadi for attending his uncle’s funeral. There, the members of caste panchayat allegedly told him that he and his family have been ostracised due to his son’s inter caste marriage.
Dangi, however, lodged a police complaint. Accordingly, police have registered an offence against five people-Tejaram Chunnilal Dangi, Balkisan Mohanlala Dangi (both residents of Warje), Deepchand Chunilal Dangi, Vijay Deepchand Dangi (both residents of Narhe) and Motilal Chunilal Dangi of Dhankawadi, under sections 120 (b), 153 (a), 341, 384, 506 (2) of IPC.
