Pune Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Ajit Pawar’s NCP wins 8 seats in Pune district, BJP dominates at 21 seats

Dr Babasaheb Annasaheb Deshmukh, the grandson of late Ganpatrao Deshmukh the longest serving MLA in the state wins the Sangole assembly seat on a PWP ticket. Ganpatrao Deshmukh had represented this seat for a record 11 times. Shahajibapu Patil of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) managed to win the seat in 2019 and wrestle it from PWP. The seat has again gone back to PWP.

With the Mahayuti heading for a landslide in Maharashtra, 83-year-old NCP(SP) Sharad Pawar, who saw his party win 8 of the 10 seats it contested barely five months ago, has failed to weave his magic as his party sits at the bottom of the list of the six major players in the state.

According to the latest EC trends, the NCP(SP) is leading only in 18 of the 87 seats it contested while rival Ajit Pawar is set to win double the number of seats.

The senior Pawar’s strategy to rope in disgruntled leaders ahead of the Assembly polls has not seemed to work so has his strategy of “targeting” leaders who jumped ship with Ajit during the 2023 rebellion.

The Pawar versus Pawar battle was triggered after Ajit walked out of the NCP to join the NDA.

Ajit, who was up against his nephew Yugendra, seems to have clawed his way back.

BJP candidate Bhimrao Tapkir has secured a commanding lead in the Khadakwasla constituency, garnering 70,035 votes after 11 rounds of counting.

His closest rival, Sachin Dodke of the NCP (SP), trails significantly with 51,210 votes, leaving a margin of over 18,000 between the two.

Even as agricultural distress in terms of lower than Minimum Support Price (MSP) rates of cotton and soyabean continued unabated, the Mahayuti managed to sweep the Vidharbha area of Maharashtra. Senior Congress leaders like Vijay Waddetiwar and others were trailing as BJP was headed to capture the cotton belt once again.

Farm activist Vijay Jawandhiya, while speaking to The Indian Express said the results are a result of the resounding success of the Majhi Mukhya Mantri Ladki Behin Yogna which saw the state government give Rs 1,500/- into the bank accounts of the eligible women in the state. “Money after all is money- people saw the swiftness with which the money was deposited in the bank accounts. This was one of the main reasons why people decided to vote for Mahayuti just months after voting for MVA in the Loksabha elections,” he said.

Another reason which helped the Mahayuti was the manner in which rebellions was handled and differences ironed out in the party. Unlike this, the MVA often was a divided house in Vidharba and strong independents who dented the chances of the official candidates. For example in the Ramtek seat Rajendra Mulak the Congress candidate who stood as a rebel was in the second position after Ashish Jaiswal the Shiv Sena (Eknaath Sinde) candidate while the official MVA candidate Vishal Barbate was in the fourth place. Internal rebellion had harmed the MVA more than the Mahayuti.

Ground level disconnect among the top leadership and the failure to put up an united front had hurt the party. Jawandhiya said the party leaders had become complacent after the Loksabha victory and had not made concentrated efforts to ensure they keep up the narrative. “Soyabean prices were well below MSP since the past few months- the Congress did not take up the matter till late. Kapas (seed cotton) prices are blow MSP- but this did not figure till late in the narrative,” he said. At the end of the day Ladki Bahin won the narrative for the Mahayuti in all parts.

With five rounds of vote counting remaining in the Pune Cantonment Assembly segment, Sunil Kamble of the Mahayuti alliance has seen his lead narrow slightly.

Kamble has secured 55,277 votes so far, while Ramesh Bagwe of the MVA Congress has garnered 52,815 votes.

Nilesh Alhat of the VBA has made inroads, capturing 8,387 votes—many of which traditionally lean towards Congress. Additionally, 1,239 voters have opted for the NOTA (None of the Above) option by the end of the 15th round.

Anticipating Ajit Pawar's victory in Baramati, supporters erupted in celebration at Bhigwan Chowk, playing with colors and dancing to the beats of Dhol-Tasha, showcasing their dominance in the constituency.

In Pune district, the Mahayuti has managed to retain its hold by leading in 18 of the 21 seats with BJP leading in 9, NCP in 8 and Shiv Sena in 1 seat.

Among those leading include Chadrakant Patil in Kothrud, Ajit Pawar in Baramati, Dilip Walse Patil in Ambegaon, Dattatraya Bharne in Indapur, Madhuri Misal in Parvati.

Ajit Pawar continues to maintain a commanding lead in the Baramati Assembly elections. After the seventh round of counting, Pawar has secured 10,500 votes, leading by 6,330 votes over Yugendra Pawar, who has 4,170 votes in this round. His total lead now stands at an impressive 33,886 votes.

A neck and neck contest in the Cantonment assembly segment. At the end of the sixth round, Sunil Kamble of Mahayuti holds a narrow lead with 19,384 votes, closely followed by Ramesh Bagwe of MVA Congress, who has garnered 19,092 votes.

However, the strong showing of VBA's Nilesh Alhat, who polled over 5,000 votes, could potentially spoil Bagwe’s chances of making a comeback.

Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has now taken the lead by 1000 votes in the Karad South constituency. He is facing a challenge from Atul Bhosale of the BJP, who was ahead in the initial two rounds of counting.

Supporters of Ajit Pawar gathered in large numbers, cheering in anticipation of a decisive victory. In the latest updates, Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar has taken the lead in the Kasba Peth constituency in the ongoing electoral battle.

battle. Meanwhile, in Hadapsar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Chetan Tupe has established a lead of 3,500 votes, indicating significant support from the local electorate.

In the fiercely contested Baramati Assembly constituency, NCP Ajit Pawar is leading with 3,352 votes over his closest rival and nephew NCP (SP) Yugendra Pawar, after the completion of the second round of counting. Ajit Pawar has secured 8,548 votes so far, while Yugendra Pawar trails with 5,196 votes.

An interesting fight is developing in Kagal Constituency of Kolhapur district, Minister Hasan Mushrif NCP (AP) is leading over his NCP (SP) candidate Samarjitsinh Ghadge.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Ajit Pawar is currently leading in the first round of voting in Baramati.

The trends of the postal ballot indicate a lead by the Mahayuti in half of the seats while MVA is close behind. There is a significant number of independents taking the lead in counting.

Among the prominent in lead are Yugendra Pawar in Baramati, Rohit Pawar in Karjat Jamkhed, Chandrakant Patil in Kothrud, Shivendraraje Bhosale in Satara, Prithviraj Chavan in Karad South.

Postal ballot counting started at all voting centres for the Maharashtra assembly elections. In all, there are 288 seats in Maharashtra.

As per the initial trends for 25 seats, the BJP was leading in 19 seats while the Congress was second with 8 seats.

Yugendra Pawar was leading in Baramati.

Former chief minister Prithviaj Chavan was ahead in Nagpur South West.

In Pimpri, Anna Bansode was leading. Similarly in Bhosari, Mahesh Landge was ahead and in Chinchwad, Shankar Jagtap was leading.

Counting began Saturday morning for the 21 Assembly seats in Pune, with both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) – led by Sharad Pawar and nephew Ajit Pawar respectively, being at the centre of the electoral battle in the district. Of the 21 seats in Pune MVA at present has just three MLAs ( 2 of Congress and 1 of NCP (Sharad Pawar). BJP has 9 MLAs, NCP (AP) has 8 Congress has 3 MLAs and NCP (SP) has 1 MLA in the district. This time BJP has contested on 8 seats, NCP (AP) on 13 seats, Congress on 5 seats Shiv Sean (UBT) on 1 seat and the rest are fought by NCP (SP). Within the next few hours, the new MLAs of Pune would be rejoicing on the streets while the ones whose electoral battle ended in regret would be busy trying to understand why.

The electoral battle, which has the state’s eyeballs is that of Baramati- where deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is battling it out with Yugendar Pawar his nephew- the NCP (Sharad Pawar ) candidate.

Another battle which is closely watched is that of Indapur, where Harshavardhan Patil the NCP (SP) leader is battling it out against Datta Bharne of NCP (AP) .

Purandar is another seat, which has evoked interest as Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP(AP) have both given candidates here.

Congress hopes to retain its Kasba seat which it won in a bypoll after the death of its BJP MLA Mukta Tilak The grand old party hopes to break its drought in the Pune Cantonment seat as well as the Shivajinagar seat.

The vote counting for 21 seats in Pune is set to begin at 8:00 AM on Saturday.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections, comprising 288 seats, were conducted in a single phase on October 20.

The ruling Mahayuti coalition is facing off against the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in this electoral battle.
