On Sunday night, a woman found a hidden camera in the women’s washroom, said police.

BeHive, a restaurant in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park, issued an apology on Thursday, days after a customer found a “hidden” camera in its women’s washroom. Expressing regret over the incident, the bar said it had initiated action against its housekeeping agency and had lodged an FIR against the culprits who are now absconding.

“We are apologetic for what happened and assure that no such incident takes place again,” the bar said in a statement.

The Hinjewadi police Tuesday had registered a case under charges of breach of privacy and booked one staffer of a third party hospitality service provider, who is alleged to have fitted the camera. Officials said they have kept the option open to register a separate offence if the woman approaches them with a complaint of her own.

As part of the probe, the role of everyone at the restaurant will be investigated, said police officials.

Pune City Police also responded to the social media post on Tuesday, assuring help in registering an FIR.

“… We have also kept the option open to register a separate complaint by the woman who found the camera… We have identified the suspected staffer involved in the case,” said Sub-Inspector Milan Kurkute of Hinjewadi police station. The FIR was filed under Section 72 of the Information Technology Act along with relevant sections of IPC.
