Four unidentified robbers from a gang attacked security guards at the Pune District Central Co-operative Bank (PDCC) in Rahu village in Daund taluka of Pune district and stole Rs 65,57,000 cash in the early hours of Saturday.
The bank’s manager, Nikhil Manik, has lodged a complaint in this case at the Yevat police station. The police said that the robbery was carried out with proper planning.
Senior police officers including Jay Jadhav, superintendent of Pune Rural Police, Ramesh Thorat, chairman of PDCC bank and former MLA were among those who visited the bank after the robbery came to light.
Investigation so far has revealed that four people reached PDCC bank at around 2 am. They first cut the CCTV cables and then attacked two security guards, identified as Deepak Bhalerao and Uttam Wagh, who were on duty at the bank on Friday night.
According to police, the robbers tied them with a rope, then using a gas cutter, they cut the window grills to enter the bank and steal the cash kept in the safe. After the robbers left, the guards managed to free themselves and inform the police and bank officials.
The local crime branch (LCB) of Pune rural police has initiated probe in this case. Police teams have been formed to identify and trace the robbers. Police said that security guard Wagh received serious injuries and has been hospitalised for treatment.
