Pune: Foreign national ‘manhandles cops at police station’, booked

Police Havaldar Santosh Naik has lodged the FIR at Kondhwa police station. Police said the accused booked an Uber cab from Pimple Gurav in the early hours of Friday to Undri.

A foreign national has been booked for allegedly manhandling cops and damaging a computer at Kondhwa police station after harassing a cab driver in the early hours of Friday. Police said the foreign national is a 22-year-old student of a prominent college in the city and a native of Uganda.

Police Havaldar Santosh Naik has lodged the FIR at Kondhwa police station. Police said the accused booked an Uber cab from Pimple Gurav in the early hours of Friday to Undri.

On the way, he allegedly harassed the cab driver, Sham Ratnakar Tidke (27), a resident of Kondhwa. Tidke then rushed the cab to Kondhwa police chowky and made a complaint against the accused. When the policemen at the chowky tried to speak to him, he allegedly went out of control. Soon, more police officers reached the spot.

The foreign national then allegedly manhandled the cops. So, the policemen brought him to the Kondhwa police station, where he allegedly banged his head on the floor and also damaged a computer. Police Sub-Inspector B B Manjare said, “We admitted him to a hospital after the incident. Medical test has revealed presence of alcohol in his system. He is in hospital and has not been arrested yet.”
