Five bikes were gutted in a fire in the early hours of Sunday in a residential society in Pokalenagar in Uttamnagar area. Based on primary information, police suspect foul play and have registered an offence against unidentified persons.
According to police, a fire started in the parking lot of More Vihar building in Pokalenagar. Police said the fire was first seen by a resident of an adjacent building at 2.15 am. He immediately informed the police and the fire brigade. A team led by sub inspector K B Jadhav of Uttamnagar police station and the fire brigade team reached the spot within minutes.
As the police team reached the spot, they saw all the electricity metres at the parking spot were intact, suggesting that the fire had not started from there. The fire was brought under control within minutes. Five two-wheelers were completely gutted.
A police officer said that based on the primary investigation, the fire seemed to have been started by somebody. “Based on the inspection of the electricity metres and wiring, we suspect foul play behind the fire. An offence has been registered,” said a police officer. PSI Jadhav is investigating the case further.
