Pune Festival to get underway on August 28

The 21st edition of the Pune Festival will get underway this year on August 28.

The 21st edition of the Pune Festival will get underway this year on August 28. The festival will be inaugurated by renowned singer Asha Bhosale and Dr Farooq Abdullah will be the chief guest.

The event consisting of music,dance,drama,sports and different arts will take place at the Ganesh Kala krida rangmanch. This year’s festival is dedicated to the memory of the great Marathi actor Nilu Phule. The festival is being organised jointly by the Pune festival committee and citizens of Pune.

The main attraction for this year’s Pune festival includes performances by Shiamak Davar,Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia,Kishori Amonkar,Hema Malini,Esha,Ahana,Varsha Usgaonkar and Subodh Bhave. The festival will also have Marathi dramas,marathi kavi sammelans,Lavani,Kerala Mahotsav,painting competition and exhibition,mahila mahotsav,Ugavate Tare,Indradhanu,Vintage car rally,roller skating competition,roll ball competition,cycling race,golf tourney,and body building competition. The Shree Ganesh Sthapana will be held at Hotel Saras,Nehru Stadium.

As per tradition,this year the Pune festival awards will be presented to flautist Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia,scientist Jayant Narlikar and industrialist Kiran Majumdar Shaw.

The inaugural ceremony will have performances by Shehnai maesto Tukaram Daithhankar and his team,Hema Malini and daughters Esha and Ahana,Shivsahir Babasaheb Purandare and his team,Varsha Usagaonkar,Amrita Khanwalkar,Dipali Sayyed,Shruti Marathe,Aniket Vishwasrao and Mayuresh Pen. Shrinivas Joshi will perform the Hari Vithal. A short video clip will showcase the journey of actor Nilu Phule.

In this golden jubilee year of Maharastra’s statehood,a special mahostav of Marathi programmes has been organised comprising marathi dramas like Olakha na Palak,Swabhav la Aushad Nahi — A special drama for senior citizens,Pyar kiya to darna kya,Jaago Mohan Pyare,Avgha rang Ekachi Zhala,and Kuriyat Sada Tingalam.
