Pune defence institute student falls from moving bus, run over by schoolbus
A 25-year-old DIAT student died after falling from a moving PMPML bus on Sinhagad Road in Pune and coming under a school bus.

A student of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune was killed after she fell from the front door of a moving Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus and came under the wheels of a school bus on Sinhagad Road on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Balwant Khadda, 25, who was residing at Krishna Hostel on the DIAT campus in Girinagar, Khadakwasla. The accident took place around 9.45 am on the road opposite the Brahma Hotel, on the lane towards Swargate. According to the police, Khadda was travelling in a PMPML bus operating on the Khanapur-Swargate route when she fell from the front door of the bus.
“Khadda was immediately taken to Jagtap Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead while undergoing treatment. The drivers of both buses have been taken to Sassoon General Hospital for medical examination. Further investigation was underway, and a case was being registered,” reads a statement from the Pune police.
“We will examine CCTV footage from the area and gather details about the circumstances leading to the victim falling from the bus. The investigation will also focus on the movement of both buses and the circumstances under which the student came under the wheels of the school bus,” an officer said.
DIAT, which is an autonomous organisation of the Department of Defence Research and Development, offers postgraduate programmes including MTech, MSc and PhD, particularly tailored towards defence and security applications.
