The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s event on Thursday of ‘parents telling story to their child’ has made it to Guinness Book of World Records with 3,066 parents simultaneously telling stories to their children for four minutes. The earlier record of 2,479 parents simultaneously telling stories to their children was held by China.
The event was a part of the Pune Book Festival, organised by the National Book Trust from December 16 to 24 on the grounds of Fergusson College, aimed to inculcate reading habits in children.
Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne and Savitribai Phule Pune University Vice Chancellor Suresh Gosavi were present on the occasion, along with others.
The parents read a lesson from the Marathi book ‘Nisargacha Nash Karu Naka‘ written by Kshipra Shahane for three minutes consecutively. The officials of Guinness Book of Records announced that the new world record of ‘parents telling their children stories’ has been established in the name of India.
In China, about eight years ago, 2,479 parents told stories to their children at the same time. The PMC had planned to get 4,500 parents to participate in its event to make a world record but 3,066 made it.
The PMC has also organised Urban95 Kids festival in the city from December 14 to 17 at Sarasbaug with the motive of nurturing the development of children through everyone’s participation. The activity, with free entry for children below six years along with their parents, will see two days of sessions on early stimulation and another two days on responsive parenting.
