Two motorcycle-borne youths pointed a knife at a businessman and his wife and robbed Rs 5 lakh in cash on Wednesday evening, the police said.

Kumar Vasant Chopra (44), resident of Indraprastha Society in Hadapsar, has lodged a complaint of robbery with Hadapsar police station.

The police said Chopra is a businessman and operates a shop in Hadapsar. He collected the cash from his shop and kept it in his two-wheeler. Chopra and his wife were going home on the two-wheeler when two persons on a motorcycle followed them. Around 8 pm, they were intercepted near Serum company.

They argued with Chopra claiming that he splashed water on them. Then, all of a sudden, they pointed a knife at the couple and asked them to get off the bike. They then sped with the two-wheeler along with the cash kept in the dicky.

After the robbers left the place, Chopra informed the police. A team of Hadapsar police visited the crime scene for an investigation. The police said the robbers were speaking in Marathi. They suspect that the robbers had kept a watch on Chopra’s movements and targeted with a proper plan while he was carrying the cash. Assistant Police Inspector Hemant Patil is investigating the case.
