An autorickshaw driver and his friend were electrocuted near Bremen Chowk in Pune’s Aundh Sunday night, prompting the police to launch a probe into the accident.

The police have identified the men as autorickshaw driver Vinod Chintaman Kshirsagar, 29, a resident of Kasturba Gandhi Vasahan in Aundh, and Saurabh Vijay Nikalje, 27, a private company employee from Kothrud.

The police said Kshirsagar’s family lodged a missing report at the Chaturshringi police station after he did not return home on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a citizen spotted the two men lying unconscious near an electricity distribution point located close to the Bremen Chowk and informed the police on Monday morning.

The police then took the two men to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the doctors. A probe revealed that both died after receiving an electric shock.

The police (we do not say cops in copies) have asked the authorities of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to disconnect the electric supply of the DP.

Police inspector Ulhas Kadam said, prima facie, they suspect that the two men accidentally came in contact with the electricity distribution point, and suffered a major electric shock.
