To commemorate the birth centenary year of Pt Firoz Dastur, senior disciple of Sawai Gandharva, two disciples of Dastur will be paying a tribute to him on the opening day of the 67th Sawai Gandharva at Maharashtriya Mandal’s ground in Mukundnagar.
The festival will be held from December 11 to 15. It will conclude with a vocal recital by senior Kirana gharana vocalist Prabha Atre. Shrinivas Joshi, executive president of the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, the organiser of the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, has revealed the list of artistes who will be performing at the festival. For the first three days, the festival will be held from 4 pm to midnight and on the concluding day, it would be held from noon till 10 pm.
The first day will mark the performance of vocalist Girish Sanzgiri followed by Jayanti Kumaresh (Carnatic style veena) and vocalist Archana Kanhere. The day will conclude with the performance of classical flutist, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia.
The second day will witness the performances of Sandeep Bhattacharjee of the Kirana Gharana followed by the Kedia Brothers from Jharkhand giving a joint performance on the sitar and the sarod. Manjiri Karve Alegaonkar, from the Jaipur Gharana and celebrated Santoor player Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, will perform after that.
The performances of the Dhrupad sisters — Amita Sinha Mahapatra, Janhavi Phansalkar and Anuja Borude — will mark the beginning of the third day followed by Viraj Joshi, grandson of Pt Bhimsen Joshi and Ken Zuckerman (sarod).
