The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB’s) Pune division has asked the Revenue Department to suspend 56 of its officials allegedly found involved in corrupt practices. The Revenue Department figures on top of the “most corrupt list” prepared by the ACB’s Pune division, which has jurisdiction over the districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur.

According to the ACB statistics, of the total 260 people booked (till November this year), 75 are from the Revenue Department —52 from class three, one from class two, three from class four and the rest from various agencies working under the Department.

Shirish Sardeshpande, SP with ACB (Pune) range, said they had been demanding the suspension of these officials. “The department has informed us that they have suspended 48 officials and action is yet to be taken against eight officials. We are following it up,” he said.

Senior revenue officials in the Mantralaya said that the revenue branch tops the “most-corrupt” list. The BJP government’s agenda has been to suspend the corrupt officials. “Action has been slow but it is surely being taken,’’ said the revenue official.

The Chief Minister has ordered strict action against corrupt officials and Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse-led department has been facing flak for topping the list. “We will initiate strict action and the officials will be suspended,’’said the senior revenue official.

The list readied by the ACB has a trap collection of Rs 5.49 crore from 29 departments. From the Pune range, 260 officials have been caught under various traps.

The Revenue Department, topping the corrupt list, was followed by police, land record, zilla parishad and RTO. The police department has 64 employees caught in the trap; land records has 14; Zilla Parishad has 11; RTO has 6; Cooperative has 7; irrigation has 4 while education department has 5 officials caught in the trap.

The municipal corporations have 14, MSEB has 13, while remaining departments have one or two officials who have been caught in the trap.

A senior bureaucrat, under condition of anonymity, said that the present BJP government has given strict instruction that action be taken against the corrupt officials. “The Chief Minister’s order has been forwarded to all the additional and principal secretaries, and all the departments. An action report and present status of those convicted by the ACB is expected to be submitted to the CM,” said the official.
