The email sent to a private airliner, Star Air, stated that powerful explosive devices had been planted around Pune International Airport in Lohagaon and warned of casualties if people were not evacuated.
(Express File)Pune International Airport is all set to shift entire flight operations to the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) from 2 AM on March 5. Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, speaking at the launch of Digi Yatra on February 8 had said that 80% of domestic and international flights had already shifted to the new terminal at the beginning of February.
The NITB spans 52,000 sq.m. and is equipped with 10 aerobridges, 34 check-in counters, 25 self-check-in kiosks, and 5 baggage carousels (including 2 dedicated to international arrivals). This means that the terminal will be able to handle increased passenger traffic. The Pune Airport will be able to accommodate up to 9 million passengers annually, aligning it with global aviation standards, said a press release.
The terminal’s design also reflects Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, incorporating traditional art and architectural elements.
Additionally, the NITB emphasizes sustainability, constructed with energy-efficient technologies and earning a Four-Star GRIHA rating for green buildings.
About the new terminal Mohol said, “The transition to the New Integrated Terminal Building represents a significant leap forward in enhancing Pune’s aviation infrastructure. This modern facility is poised to provide passengers with a world-class travel experience, reflecting our commitment to excellence and growth.”
Passengers are advised to check airline notifications and arrive early to familiarize themselves with the new terminal and ensure a seamless experience.
