MINUTES after his daughter died of high fever, a 51-year-old doctor died of heart attack at his residence in Kharalwadi, Pimpri, late on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Dr Anwar Ahmed Hussain Kalmani and his daughter Nujhat (22). Dr Anwar ran a clinic in Laltopinagar area of Morwadi.
According to advocate Sushil Mancharkar, a family friend, Dr Anwar returned home from his clinic on Sunday afternoon. He enquired about his daughter who was suffering from fever for the past two days. “In the evening, she had complained of back pain to her father and was resting in the bedroom. Later, when the doctor was speaking to his brother on the phone his younger daughter came running and informed him that Nujhat was feeling uneasy,” said Mancharkar.
When Kalmani rushed forth, he found Nujhat unconscious. He sprinkled water on her face but she did not respond. “Dr Anwar checked her pulse and, apparently, found her in a critical condition,” said Mancharkar.
Even as he was telling his family members that Nujhat should be taken to the hospital, Dr Anwar suffered chest pains and collapsed. “Both were rushed to the hospital where they were declared dead,” said Mancharkar.
Nujhat had just graduated from Jaihind College in Pimpri. “Dr Anwar was looking for a suitable match for his daughter. Just a few days back, some people had come to their house with a marriage proposal for Nujhat,” he said.
