A suspected love triangle turned into a late-night abduction drama in Pune early Thursday. A hotelier and his aides allegedly abducted a 28-year-old man they believed was getting too close to the woman one of them was in a relationship with.

The police said they rescued Prasad Suryawanshi within an hour and arrested the hotelier Sagar Ramesh Borade and one of his aides, Kishor Balasaheb Sawant, and are looking for two more accomplices.

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Vishrambag police station.

A chase and a rescue

Senior Police Inspector Navnath Jagtap said the accused abducted Suryawanshi around 12.30 am from a spot near Chimnya Ganpati temple in the Perugate area. Suryawanshi shouted for help, but the abductors bundled him into a black SUV and left the spot.

“Suryawanshi’s friend saw the incident and informed the police control room,” Jagtap said.

A person living in a building nearby also recorded a video of the incident on a cell phone from the window.

The police then launched a chase for the accused and rescued the victim from Sinhagad Road around 1.15 am, and caught Borade and Sawant.

The police brought Suryawanshi and both accused to Vishrambag Police Station around 1.23 am.

A suspicion and an attack

According to the police probe, Borade was in love with a woman, who is also preparing for examinations conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The woman and Suryawanshi interacted and shared study notes for the exams, they added.

The probe revealed that Borade suspected Suryawanshi of having an affair with the woman, so he and his aides allegedly attacked Suryawanshi in the Perugate area.
