Pune: 25-year-old software engineer dies in car mishap

Bharati Vidyapeeth police have identified the deceased as Krutika Prakash Nandlaskar, a resident of Karvenagar.

A 25-year-old software engineer was killed and seven of her friends were injured after the two cars they were travelling in, turned turtle after the drivers allegedly started racing each other on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass of the NH4 in the early hours of Saturday.

Bharati Vidyapeeth police have identified the deceased as Krutika Prakash Nandlaskar, a resident of Karvenagar. Police said that the eight friends working for a software company located in Shivajinagar had met at the residence of one of their friends in Dattanagar area on Friday night.

Later, they decided to head to Lonavala. According to police, the eight friends started towards Lonavala via Narhe around 2.30 am in two cars, driven by Sunny Tapase (27) of Malhar Peth and Sumit Vanjari (27) of Dattanagar.

Assistant inspector Subhash Jadhav of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station informed that according to their probe, the two drivers started racing against each other and in an attempt to stay ahead of the other, the two cars brushed against each other and turned turtle. Krutika died immediately while the others injured were rushed to a nearby hospital by residents and police.

API Jadhav said that both the driver Tapase and Vanjari have been booked. Other injured have been identified as Aarti Sonavane, Saurabh Shinde, Ganesh Gaikwad, Tushar Jadhav and Chaitanya Joshi.
Police said that the cars were in very high speed of around 100 kilometres per hour.
