A senior police official told the media that the first case under the BNS was registered at Kailashahar in the Unakoti district after the truck driven by the driver hit a 71-year-old man, leading to his death. (Representational Image)
Two persons including a 25-year-old woman were killed and two more including the deceased’s infant, were injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Purandar taluka on Saturday morning. Police have launched a search for the truck driver who fled the scene after the accident.
Officials from Saswad police station under Pune Rural police said that the accident took place around 8 am on Saturday at Devdi village on Kapurhol Saswad road. The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Balasaheb Lekawale (28) and Trupti Akshay Jagtap (25). The injured have been identified as Trupti’s son, Krushna Akshay Jagtap (2) and her relative Prakash Baburao Darekar (50).
Officials said that Trupti and her son along with Darekar were on their way home in Pune from her parents’ house. Lekawale, who worked in Hadapsar, and knew the family, had given them a lift. At Devdi village on Kapurhol Saswad road, their car was hit by a truck, after which the car got stuck under the truck, heavily damaging it and critically injuring the occupants.
The injured were rushed to the hospital where Lekawale and Trupti were pronounced dead. “The truck driver fled the scene. A search has been launched for him.” said an officer from Saswad police station.
Four tourists hurt as SUV turns on side
Four tourists suffered minor injuries after an SUV they were travelling in turned on its side on the road from Sinhagad Fort to Donje village on Sunday evening.
Officials from Haveli police station said that the SUV had 12 passengers and was carrying tourists returning from Sinhagad Fort. Around 5 pm, the SUV suffered a brake failure because of which the driver could not control the vehicle, said an officer from Haveli police station. Officer said that the SUV rammed into a rock face on the side of the road.
Four women, out of a total of the 12 passengers sustained minor injuries were taken to a private hospital nearby.
