Hosts Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)scored an emphatic 4-0 victory over last years winner Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to lift the 27th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s Inter Unit Hockey Tournament organised by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited,played at Chattrapati Shivaji Krida Sankul Balewadi,Pune here today.

In the finals played on Thursday,BPCL outplayed Indian Oil Corporation and won by a margin of four goals. BPCL dominated the entire game and scored at regular intervals to ensure their victory.

Their defence remained strong and did not allow international players like Prabhjyot Singh and Rajpal Singh to play their natural game.

Gurpreet Singh (13 mins),Tushar Khandkar( 25 min),Hari Prasad (49 min) and Ravi Pal (55 min) scored for the winners.

“We are very happy with the result. We lost to the same team in the finals last year which made today’s victory even sweeter. Our plan was to stop their attacks and play on the counter. We also wanted to keep the likes of Rajpal Singh and Prabhjyot Singh quiet and achieved both these objectives”,said Ajay Saroha,captain of BPCL. ONGC scored a 3-1 win over GAIL to win third place.

Swinder Singh (BPCL) won the Best Goalkeeper award,Sunil Yadav (IOC) won the Best Defender award,Vickram Kanth (IOC) the Best Midfielder award,Hari Prasad (BPCL) the Best Forward award,while Ravi Pal (BPCL),was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament.

BPCL: 4 (Gurpreet Singh 13 min,Tushar Khandkar 25 min,Hari Prasad 49 min,Ravi Pal 55 min) bt IOC: 0;

Third place: ONGC: 3 (Jai Karan 5,65 min,Y.S. Gulia 65 min) bt

GAIL:1 (Shashank Saxena 59 min).
