In a brief reply to a questionnaire sent by The Indian Express,Southern Command Headquarters,said,The process is on to implement the original court order. The 44 per cent land is to be earmarked for accommodation of married officers. As the CBI investigation is in progress,no comment can be offered at this stage. Prima facie an internal inquiry established procedural lapses by a group of individuals,which had compromised organizational interest. Accordingly,the case was handed over to CBI for investigation since multiple agencies were involved.
Earlier,a Court of Inquiry was ordered by Headquarters,Southern Command to investigate the matter,following which the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) had directed administrative action against the then Major General in Charge of Administration,HQ,Southern Command and the president the Pune Cantonment Board. The COAS had ordered that the matter be handed over to the CBI. CBI has registered a case in which Lt. Gen (Retd) N. Thamburaj has been named as an accused. The case is pending inquiry.
