Eight girls were rescued from a prostitution racket during a joint operation by the personnel of the Social Security Cell of Pune city police’s Crime Branch and Faraskhana police station, who conducted raids at 70 brothels in nine buildings in Budhwar Peth area on Thursday. Some of the girls were sent to the Rescue Foundation Home on Mohammadwadi Road in Hadapsar and further action is being taken, according to a statement by police.

Officials of the district women and child development department and activists of NGOs Rescue Foundation and Saheli helped police carry out the operation. The women also underwent tests at the Sassoon hospital.
Police Inspector Sajay Patil of the Social Security Cell and Senior Inspector Rekha Salunkhe of the Faraskhana police station led the operation, as per the instructions of DCP (zone I) Sudhir Hiremath and ACP Pravin Kulkarni.
