Police also charged Rs 100 as fine from defaulters
A month after it was made compulsory,the Pune police on Wednesday started slapping fines on riders who eneterd the Pune Camp without wearing helmets.
Police issued 163 challans for riders who entered the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) limits without wearing helmets an official from the Pune Sub Area said. After a month long drive to spread awareness about the helmet compulsion within the Pune Cantonment limits,Wednesday was the first day when,the riders,not wearing helmets were fined.
“We have been educating the people for over a month now. We had plans of starting the fine-system from October 2,but the actual implementation began on October 3. The Pune police,who have been assisting the Pune Sub Area in implementing the helmet compulsion cut the challans at Turf Club,Kahoon Road and the Army Public School,” an Army official said. Police also charged Rs 100 as fine for not wearing helmets.
The official noted that there has been a significant rise in the number of people entering the Pune Cantonment area wearing helmets. “This is for a good
cause and we plan to adhere to what we have proposed. there has been a significant increase in the number of people wearing helmets,” the official said. Helmet has been made compulsory within the limits of Pune Camp from September 1.
