Despite the advertising rates getting revised with the formation of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML),the official concerned for collecting revenue from the advertising agencies appointed by the erstwhile Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport (PCMT) collected the charges as per the old rates, resulting in the PMPML losing Rs 25 lakh.

The PMPML administration has therefore given directions to take action against this official whose identity has so far not been revealed.

As per the information given by the sources, before the Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) and PCMT were merged to form PMPML in 2007,the PCMT had appointed two advertising agencies for advertisements on buses as well as at bus shelters.

An agreement to this effect had been done. While Srushti Advertising was appointed for advertisements at bus shelters,Idea Manufacturing Company was responsible for advertisements on buses.

“After the formation of PMPML in 2007,the advertising rates had been hiked. However, the two agencies appointed by PCMT did not make payment as per these revised rates in the last two years, between 2007 and 2009. Due to this difference,Rs 25 lakh is yet to come from Idea Manufacturing Company, while the outstanding amount of the other agency is yet to be checked,” sources said adding,“Until these concerned agencies make payments, the agreement with them cannot be terminated as well.”

It was also learnt that the PMPML administration initiated an enquiry against the official, who had been entrusted with the responsibility of collecting charges from these two agencies.
