Hoping for Congress support,efforts of MNS-led opposition parties to corner the NCP in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over appointment of a corporator as PMPML director failed on Monday after the Congress voted in favour of the NCP candidate.
NCP corporator Prashant Jagtap defeated Rajendra Pawar of MNS. The PMPML board of directors includes a nominated corporator from the PMC general body,along with the mayor and other office bearers. The nomination of the corporator was to take place last week but the NCP sensing opposition from Congress managed to postpone the decision by adjouring the general body meeting.
On Monday,the main opposition party MNS decided to field its candidate for the post,hoping to get support from Congress and saffron combine. The Congress voted in favour of NCP candidate who will be the director for next two years. On the other hand,the BJP voted for MNS candidate while the Shiv Sena abstained from voting.
The general body also appointed a 13-member Name Committee that decides on giving names to civic properties,including roads and gardens.

The decision on appointing coordination committee of party leaders was postponed after Opposition parties opposed the move to include RPI corporator in the committee.
