Under pressure to implement Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) after taking financial assistance under JNNURM,the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration has set its focus on execution of the project on Nagar road-Vishrantwadi route.

“We have learnt lessons from the pilot BRTS from Katraj to Hadapsar via Swargate. There are no chances we would take while implementing it on Nagar-Vishrantwadi route as it would decide the implementation on the other proposed route,” said civic officer.

This time the PMC will take help of public and other organisations to make the BRTS more effective,he said adding it would include branding it on lines of Ahmedabad BRTS while ensuring public participation through a competition to decide the logo for Pune BRTS.

There has been improvement in infrastructure development for BRTS compared to that in pilot project. The main attention has been on working towards ensuring safety of citizens using the BRTS route for which all the neccessary measures would be in place before it is started,he added.

The Pune City Connect (PCC) of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has joined hands with PMC and PMPML to ensure that the infrastructure is with due safety measures in place.

Accordingly, the civic administration is installing state-of-the-art street furniture on BRTS route at bus stops. The buses on the BRTS route will be painted in different colours so that people can differentiate between them and the ones plying on normal route. The drivers and conductors will be provided with uniform different from those given to other PMPML staff.
