Gearing up for the monsoon,the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday set May 15 as the deadline for all the agencies concerned to complete work related to digging of roads.
In a meeting called for carrying out preparations for monsoon,acting Municipal Commissioner M S Devanikar directed the agencies that have dug up the roads for laying water supply lines,drainage pipelines,telephone and electricity cables to complete the work by May 15.
The civic administration will not give any permission for digging up roads after May 15 and the ongoing work should be completed by the same time, he said. In order to avoid waterlogging,Devnikar asked the departments concerned to urgently float tenders and appoint agency to clean up the river,nullah and storm water drains.
The work of removing the debris for smooth flow of water should be completed by May 20,he said adding that all the other developmental work should be complete by May 30. The health department has been asked to take care of public health and carry out a pre-monsoon cleanliness drive while getting equipped for the possible outbreak of health hazards.

The building department has been asked to check dilapidated buildings while the garden department has been directed to cut trees and branches that are likely to be dangerous during the monsoon. A flood control cell has been activated that will also look into transit camps for citizens getting affected due to flood-like situations.
