The Ahilyanagar district police have lodged a non-cognizable (NC) offence against three persons following allegations of bogus voting cards found during the municipal corporation elections on Thursday.

The offence in this case was lodged at the Tofkhana police station on Ahilyanagar.

As stated in the report, police have identified two suspects in this case as Ganesh Shekade (34) and Satish Shekade (32), both residents of Mhasobachi Wadi in Ashti taluka in Beed district of Maharashtra. The identity of the third suspects is not known yet, police said.

A controversy erupted after Shelke claimed to have snatched as many as 31 bogus voting cards from an unidentified person sitting in an auto rickshaw at Parijat chowk in Ahilyanagar city, around 1.45 pm on Thursday. Shelke said the suspect fled from the spot.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena activists nabbed Ganesh and Satish who were allegedly moving suspiciously at the polling booth in Anand Vidyalay school, in ward number 3. The suspects were handed them over to the police.

“The suspects have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 174 (punishment for undue influence or impersonation at an election). Further investigation in this case is on,” said police inspector Jagdish Bhambal of Tofkhana police station.

Sudhir Patil, election officer for ward number 3, said that an inquiry has been initiated into the incident. Patil said the police have taken the suspects into custody for further investigation. Police said veracity of the 31 voting cards seized in this case is being investigated.
