PMC cracks down on illegal water connections,property tax defaulters

In a major crackdown drive,the Dhankawadi ward office of the Pune Municipal Corporation on Monday snapped 110 water connections in Ambegaon Pathar village near Katraj on survey numbers 16,17 and 18,that were illegally drawing municipal water.

In a major crackdown drive,the Dhankawadi ward office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday snapped 110 water connections in Ambegaon Pathar village near Katraj on survey numbers 16,17 and 18,that were illegally drawing municipal water.

The Anti-encroachment Department,security cell,Swargate Water Works and Dhankawadi ward office carried out the joint drive. Umesh Mali,ward officer of Dhankawadi ward said,“This area does not fall within the PMC limit. The housing projects illegally draw civic water through illegal water connections and taps. That was going on without the necessary permission from the civic body. We observed that the maximum illegal water connections were on survey number 16.”

He added that the builders,who had come up with housing projects in this area,had not made provisions for water supply initially as water was later drawn from municipal lines in an illegal manner. In this drive,five civic officials from Dhankawadi ward office,20 police personnel and 35 labour and plumbers took part.

Similarly,the Tax Collection Department of PMC has issued notices against owners of 266 properties,after the cheques they had paid their property tax through bounced back. Tax collector and assessor of PMC Vilas Kanade informed this through a press note.

The PMC collects property tax in cash or through DDs or cheques. However,cheques of 266 property owners bounced. After this,the civic authorities have issued notices to these property owners to pay in cash within a fortnight. Those who evade this payment are liable to be booked under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Subsequently,25 property owners have made an immediate payment to PMC to avoid further action.
