BJP urges party workers to achieve power in Pune civic polls independently

On Monday, city BJP chief Yogesh Gogawale declared regional chiefs for four regions in PMC after state unit chief Raosaheb Danve directed for immediate appointment of regional chiefs to start preparation for the civic polls.

Upbeat after winning the Lok Sabha and all eight assembly seats from the city in 2014, the BJP has urged party workers to gear up to contest next year’s Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) polls independently to achieve power in the civic body.

On Monday, city BJP chief Yogesh Gogawale declared regional chiefs for four regions in PMC after state unit chief Raosaheb Danve directed for immediate appointment of regional chiefs to start preparation for the civic polls.

In the party meeting, Danve asked party workers not to waste time thinking on whether the BJP and Shiv Sena would forge a pre-poll alliance.

“BJP is in a much better situation in PMC and PCMC. Thus, the focus should be to grab power on our own,” he said, adding that party workers should strengthen base through special drives.

District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat too urged party workers to carry forward the winning streak of the party in the city. “The decision on a pre-poll alliance would be taken by senior leaders and we should not bother about local Sena leaders making statements of contesting independently,” he said.

City Sena chief Vinayak Nimhan has been aggressive against the BJP over civic issues. Sena leaders have been criticising the BJP for not pushing the development work of the city with the state and Union government despite being elected on all seats from the city.
