To address the daily chaotic traffic situation at Chandni Chowk, the Pune Municipal Corporation has finally appointed a consultant for preparing a master plan for the project.
In a proposal tabled in the standing committee, the civic administration said there are five roads, including a national highway, meeting at Chandni Chowk, and provide connectivity to various other places.
“The western part of the city has witnessed rapid urbanisation and the population density has led to heavy traffic at Chandni Chowk which is frequently witnessing accidents along with the traffic jams,” it said, adding there are many national and international IT companies on the part of the city, leading to heavy traffic flow.
Chandni Chowk also provides connectivity to National Defence Academy (NDA), it said, adding there is a dire need for improving the road infrastructure in here.
A multi-level flyover with grade separator and an underpass is planned in the project estimated to cost Rs 220 crore, it said, adding Chandni Chowk would be signal-free after the implementation of the project.
