Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering enter quarter-finals of RFYS

Defending champions Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE) defeated JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering 2-1 to move into the quater-finals of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament on Saturday. PCCOE ended their league stage by topping Group A with 9 points.

In their final group game at the Hegdewar Ground, PCCOE staged a fightback and rode on a second half brace by Shubham Nesargi to seal the quarter-final berth.

Rajarshi Shahu College opened the scoring through Umesh Zambre’s goal. However, in the second half, Shubam struck two goals to see his team through to the knockout stage.

PCCOE’s superb run saw them score 21 goals in 5 matches (two qualifiers and three league) and only concede just two. Saturday’s victory also gave PCCOE the distinction of becoming the first team to enter the quarter-finals of the national-level tournament.
