After the University of Pune (UoP) held its first online PhD exam successfully in December, many departments at the varsity are still to conduct the second exam. The Board of College and University Development (BCUD) had set January 31 deadline for the same. However,UoP officials said, only two departments met the deadline.
Deputy registrar Vitthal Sathe confirmed that only two departments met the deadline. We conducted paper I,which is common for all the departments,in December last year. Following that, each department had been instructed to finish paper II by January 31,since this paper is department specific. Till now, only the department of Chemistry and the MBA have conducted the tests.
Wasudev Gade, director,BCUD said that a letter had been sent to all the departments saying that the exams should be completed by January 31 and the entire procedure of admissions had to be completed by February 28. However, since most of the departments could not stick to the deadline,it was decided that all the departments will have to conduct the exam by February end. The results will be put up by the first week of March and the interviews will begin in second week.
However, when asked why the departments didnt follow the deadline,Gade said,It is an ongoing process. There might be a slight variation in the dates but every department is working on it.
