Khadak police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Bihar and recovered over 2 kg charas worth Rs 4.8 lakh from his possession. Police said the suspect was carrying charas procured from the same dealer from Bihar who had supplied the contraband to two Mumbai peddlers arrested in January.
Police have identified the suspect as Lalbabu Rangi Saha,a resident of village Bhanvara in Bettiah district of Bihar. Acting on a tip-off,a team from Khadak police station laid a trap near Nehru Square in Shukrwar Peth and arrested Saha.
Police said Saha had come to Pune to sell the contraband at pubs and in slum areas. During interrogation Saha told police that the charas was brought from Nepal and he had procured it from a dealer in Bihar. On January 16,Khadak police had arrested two Mumbai peddlers Arvind Pandurang Sakpal (27) and Mohan Narayan Pujari (23) and had seized 2.3 kg charas from them.
Senior inspector Rajendra Kadam said,In both the seizures,the charas was brought from the same dealer in Bihar. We have launched a search for him. This is an inter-state drug racket. Saha was remanded in police custody till March 28.
