The general body meeting of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Munici-pal Corporation on Monday unanimously rejected the demand for increase in the honorarium of corporators to Rs 50,000. Mayor Shakuntala Darade presided over the meeting which was earlier scheduled on August 20.

The decision to increase the monthly honorarium from Rs 7,000 to Rs 50,000 was approved by the Law Committee of the PCMC. However, the general body decided to keep it in abeyance in view of the opposition from citizens and also due to the civic elections, which are round the corner.

This was the second attempt by the corporators to increase their honorarium. In the past, they had sought a hike of Rs 25,000. However, the state government had rejected the proposal.
