PCB scans roads,unclogs drain lines

With just a month to go for monsoon to begin if it’s on time,drainage and road repair works are going on in full swing within the Pune Cantonment Board limits.

Talking to The Indian Express,S B Patil,engineer,PCB said,“We are at present engaged in cleaning the stormwater drainage. Road repair works are also underway. We are laying tar on the road at places where potholes have developed.” The inter-departmental work has been undertaken and as many as 40 officials have been pressed into work.

With the presence of various agencies such as cantonment board,the Military Engineer Service (MES),Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in PCB limits,rain water management system becomes more challenging.

The work of road repairs and cleaning of stormwater drains that started about a week ago is expected to be completed by the last week of May or first week of June. “There are two-three roads,where co-ordination between MES and PCB is required. We have been urging MES to complete the work soon,” a PCB official said.

Increased population,traffic and development have resulted in congestion on some roads within the limits of Pune Camp.
