Three weeks after the death of a Pune youth Shyam Kumar Nair (26) in Dubai, his family Thursday cremated the body. The family is in Dubai waiting for the paperwork to bring his ashes back.

A resident of Akurdi in Pune,Shyam died under mysterious circumstances at his home in Dubai on June 7.

His roommates reportedly called an ambulance and rushed him to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Dubai police questioned his five roommates from West Bengal working with him at a bank. Police there are investigating to know the exact cause of Shyam’s death.

His brother Sharath, his father Shashidharan, mother Vasantha and cousin Suresh are in Dubai.

“We have been told by the authorities that some test reports are awaited for knowing the cause of death. His death certificate can be issued only after that. As per norms we could not bring the body to India without the death certificate. So we cremated him in Dubai yesterday… Cremating him in Dubai was difficult… But we managed to get permission from municipal authorities. Now we want to take his ashes to India. It also needs a death certificate,” Sharath, younger brother of Shyam, told The Indian Express over phone on Friday.
