Pardeshi in spot over action against former PCMC chief

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi faces a piquant situation as the former PCMC mayor R S Kumar during the general body meeting held on Thursday demanded action against a former municipal commissioner in connection with the 'HBOT purchase fiasco.'

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi faces a piquant situation as the former PCMC mayor R S Kumar during the general body meeting held on Thursday demanded action against a former municipal commissioner in connection with the ‘HBOT purchase fiasco.’

Six-time corporator from Pradhikaran area,Kumar without naming the former municipal commissioner, said that Pardeshi took action only against one official and refused to take action against a former municipal commissioner who was the final authority to clear the purchase of the machine.

The purchase has run into trouble as during a probe the commissioner discovered that the machine was bought for nearly Rs 3 crore even as its actual cost was less than Rs 1 crore.

The PCMC chief acted only against Dr Anand Jagdale as he was the civic health chief and YCMH superintendent when the purchase was made. Jagdale retired as PCMC health chief in January.

Jagdale had demanded that action be initiated against others too as he was not the only one who had recommended the purchase of the machine.

“Action should be taken against all the officials who recommended the purchase of the machine and also the standing committee, which approved the proposal,” said Kumar.

Kumar’s demand has put the commissioner in a spot. “He does not like to bend rules at any cost. Since the demand has been made in the general body meeting,he will have to take action. But how can he take action against an IAS officer, who is his senior?” asked officials.

The commissioner has maintained all along that his predecessor was given wrong advice by the experts.

In the meeting,Pardeshi said the purchase of the machine was not required. “After the committee constituted to look into the matter gives its report,we will initiate action against the guilty,” the civic chief said.
