The Railway administration has decided to bar passengers from entering Pune railway station from parcel gate. Authorities said the decision was taken in view of a proposal by law and order agencies to meet security requirements and in view of increasing vehicular movement at the parcel gate. The parcel gate will henceforth allow entry and exit of only those vehicles that transport parcels.
On an average, about 260 tonne parcels are handled at the station every day through this gate resulting in increased vehicular movement. This increased vehicular movement poses a safety hazard to passengers using this gate. Usage of this gate by passengers results in congestion of the main road near the state transport bus-stand where autorickshaws are also parked to pick and drop passengers, said Railway PRO,Y K Singh.
The railway administration has requested passengers to enter the station only from entry points at the main station building and the reservation centre.
