Organisers announce added attractions for Bhimsen mahotsav

Short-film festival on topics related to Indian classical music,will start followed by Antaranga,the interactive session.

The organisers of the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav on Monday announced several fringe initiatives for the 61st edition of the festival that will begin in the city on December 12.

The two special initiatives — Shadja and Antaranga — have been part of the festival for the last 6 years and will be held simultaneously with the main event. Both the events will take place at Sawai Gandharva Smarak near Rahul Theater at Shivajinagar and the entry for the programmes will be free on first-come first-serve basis.

Addressing the media,Shrinivas Joshi,Executive President,Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal,and Hrishikesh Deshpande,Director,Indian Magic Eye,said Shadja,the short-film festival on topics related to Indian classical music,will start at 10.30 am. This would be followed by Antaranga,the interactive session,at 11.30 am,they added.

Films based on the lives of several legendary artistes such as Pandit Jasraj,Begum Akhtar and Gangubai Hangal will be screened as part of the short-film festival. Ustad Nishat Khan and Dr Arvind Thatte among other noted artistes will interact with the audience.

The Vatsalabai Joshi Award,given away for outstanding contribution in the field of music,will be awarded to Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande this year . Deshpande is the disciple of Kumar Gandharva and is the son of musicologist Vamanrao Deshpande. The award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 35,000.

As part of the festival,a special photo exhibition paying tribute to late Pandit Ravishankar and late Pandit MS Gopalkrishnan will be organised. Dhatumudras of several noted artistes created on stainless steel with the help of laser technology will be the highlight of the exhibition.The idea has been conceptualised by photographer Sateesh Paknikar in association with the city-based creative agency Anunaad Creative Resonance.
